Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.4/100, a mean average of 65.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.4.

Many felt that this had the hallmarks of a contract-fulfilment album upon its release – a tag that doesn’t seem to have gone away in the intervening years. Viewed objectively though, rather than in the context of this prolific Artist’s back catalogue, this is a great piece of work. Opener Come sets the tone for most of the album – lots of sex (it’s what he does best, let’s face it). In fact, it may be his filthiest song yet. It also doesn’t feel like its 11 minutes, as it’s a solid groove throughout. The few tracks that follow are excellent examples of how, when Prince pushes himself, he can come up with superb songs. Side A closer Loose! is amongst his best tracks – sounding though it does like Prince filtered through The Prodigy. Side B is a little more staid and the songs hang together less well, but there’s nothing here to overlook (save maybe the final track, Orgasm, which does exactly what it says on the tin). Overall this may not be classic Prince, but it certainly isn’t the pariah that many view it as.
High Points: Pheromone; Loose!; Papa; Come

I have never been able to get into this one. It’s too cold and sterile it lacks the inspiration you usually get from the Artist. The album seemingly created to satisfy a recording contract.

I needed to buy this album after demoing the songs off of I Tunes and have to say this holds up really well even with the scathing reviews this got during it's release. Hell I argue that the sound on this record is a bit forward thinking for him.

An admitted throwaway but nowhere as bad as its reputation

This is a dark and somewhat strange album for Prince. I wish he would have kept the NPG around, it would be a long time before he released another album as good as the symbol album.
