At the time, Chico was the most censored popular musician in Brazil, then run by a criminal military dictatorship; so he released this covers record to get some respite.
There is only one original track ("Acorda, Amor"), signed under a pseudonym, so it wouldn't be censored as well; the lyrics describe a man who wakes up at night, frightened by some noise on the street, and he says to his wife "Call the thief" instead of "Call the police", since many policemen of the regime were murderers and torturers...
