Jazz pianist virtuoso Brad Mehldou and multi-instrumentalist, composer, and electro wizard Mark Guiliana come together to form one of the most interesting projects in jazz and/or electronic music in recent years. At times mind-benignly psychedelic, and at others intricate yet relaxing (both courtesy of that magical sound of the Rhodes keyboard, and some fairly trippy spoken word overlays) "Taming the Dragon" is a wonderful sonic journey that treads into some welcome unexplored territory in the world of electronic jazz, only occasionally getting dangerously close to that beige lounge music one expects to hear in a hotel lobby; (such moments are the album's minority.) Flaws considered, Taming the Dragon remains a pleasantly entrancing experience
