Something special (I swear I planned on starting my review like this before reading last comment) seems to be happening on this album: Their ability to reinvent instruments and effects reaches a highpoint on this album; I imagine even the most stubborn culture snobs don’t feel slightly embarrassed to dance to hits like “Jealous”.
That being said, I think the singles are the weakest spots on the album; “Over Your Shoulder” through “Hard to Say No” are pure bliss. And they finally nailed the house-y and trance-y detours. The album’s closer shows perfectly how they manage to baffle you with completely generic instruments by following a talk box closely after a sax, which leaves your brain in confusion for a while as to what just happened.
Chromeo has a cool retro 80's synth sound, but the album doesn't really do anything to build upon that and become special. Just more of the same. 'Jealous' is a solid single though.
