Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.2/100, a mean average of 71.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

“CATCH *fumbles for a couple of days* Alright listened! I must say it caught me quite off guard. For an album that started off so... "post-glitchy" for want of a better word, I didn't expect it to morph into something so post-rockish. Man though that opening track is fantastic. So is In Between…”

Bit of a mixed bag, but the hype was certainly worth it. Most tracks are great, a couple of them are downright brilliant (212, Chasing Time, Miss Camaraderie). Azealia manages to push boundaries of hip-hop and dance-pop with her own unique flow & sharp beats. The coolest, freshest album of the year.

Her first release that felt complete. 1991 had perfect songs on it, but it was too short; on Fantasea she focussed on rapping and the beats. Here all her talents emerge and it’s over an hour.
