This is a far more digestible Frank Zappa release with a lot of the songs sounding closer to the music at the time than the classic and abstract sound he usually performs. That makes this the perfect album in my opinion to start listening to Zappa as you still get the nuances but they are a lot more subtle. The music still works brilliantly with the instrumentation being layered and diverse just like always. I think the drums and keyboards are fantastic on here but what steals the show is the guitar for me. It drives every song it is present on forward and has some phenomenal solos as well. As a whole the album is so consistent with there not really being a weak track on here at all. Furthermore, there is so much to dive into on here with there being something new I discover with each listen. Plus Inca Roads is just a musical marvel. Overall, this is an under rated album that is one of Zappa's more accessible releases but it still maintains that high level of musicianship and general genius of his previous releases. (Edited)

To say this album is ahead of it's time would be an understatement. It's a real shame how underrated this album is. The musical talent that is on display is almost second to none. Elements of jazz, funk, prog, rock all stitch together this great album. This is definitely one of my favourite albums and as a fan of modern music in particular, that is quite a statement. But everything is just so nicely done, the production, the playing of instruments (particularly guitar), the vocals, the time signatures, the experimentation; all of it fits together perfectly to create this delightful release. A huge hidden gem of the 70s, in my opinion. (Edited)

As stated in many reviews this is one of the more accessible Zappa albums. Inca Roads is a masterpiece in its own right with some superb guitar work. As with a lot of Zappa works, I hear something different with every listen. (Edited)

One of the more professional, if that's the right term, of the Mother's albums. It actually sounds as if it was worked on rather than just made up as they went along. An underrated Zappa record. (Edited)

The first Zappa-album I ever listened and bought. Still my favorite. With the eclectic topsongs Inca Roads and San Ber'dino, the great guitarwork on Pojama People and the overall humour, great musicianship and great textes.
