I'm proud to say I'm a Pale Saints aficionado and have followed their career closely since 'Barging Into The Presence Of God'came out in 1989 and I'm here to tell you definitively 'Slow Buildings' is their best and most accomplished work , whilst 'The Comforts Of Madness' will always hold a special place in my heart 'Slow Buildings' trumps it pound for pound , note for note . The loss of founder Ian Masters was potentially fatal but ex Lush member Meriel Barham smashes it out of the park
This album contains not one but 2 perfect 100/100 tracks in "Fine Friend" and the 10 minute tour de-force which is the epic "Henry" . Every other track is good to above average
Very very very very underrated album

i think this album tends to be viewed with some scorn by folks to think Ian Masters was the primary creative force behind Pale Saints, but i think Meriel Barham does a really good job of taking over primary writing, singing, and guitar playing duties on this album. it may not be what fans of In Ribbons, and The Comforts Of Madness were expecting, but for me it's an album that overcame my initial skepticism, and now i view it as a strong album that stands up well on its own.
