Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.0.

My introduction to Pale Saints and possibly just as worthy as their first two albums in terms of quality and importance. Less heavy on the shoegaze sound, and more foreshadowing later Britpop by taking heavily from the C86 stuff.

It features them at their most upbeat with noisy guitars, but also has several experimental slow tracks to break up the pacing. The latter aren't as good, but every pop track on this is solid to great.

The album's somewhat incoherent, being a compilation and all but it carries some of my favourites from their discography (Half-Life, Baby Maker.)

Released between the bands first two albums "Mrs. Dolphin" is a 1991 Japanese compilation which brings together 2 EP's in "Barging Into the Presence Of God " and "Half-Life" plus a track from the "Gigantic! 2" compilation as well as a previously unreleased track in 'Colours And Shapes'

If it sounds like a mixed bag then it literally is

'Sight of You ' , 'She Rides The Waves' , 'Mother Might ' (All 3 tracks from their rather excellent debut EP "Barging Into the Presence Of God ") and 'A Revelation ' are all great and classic Pale Saints . The rest of the tracks alternate between bleak sound-scapes and jangley guitar pop none of which are much good

Special mention to the weird 'The Colour Of The Sky ' with its spoken word and screaming intro followed by music box outro ... very interesting and unlike anything Pales Saints ever did
