An interesting update on the original album's sound and instrumentation, using more digital technology and better recording gear in general (though the old plate reverbs they used in the original were very distinctive and warmer-sounding than what's used here, so I sort of miss that). Fahl is a fine singer, but she's a contralto and seems to lack both the range and emotive capacity required to pull off the Clare Torry part in "The Great Gig in the Sky." (In terms of vocal style and tone, I'd say she's similar to Renaissance's Annie Haslam, or maybe a cross between Heart's Ann Wilson and Nico.) I wouldn't go so far as to say it ruins the album, but it does show just how important Clare Torry was to the original version and its success. Overall, this is a good effort, but it won't make you want to throw out your old Pink Floyd records.
