Though it's usually referred to as a "noise" record, in recent years that term has been applied more to "noise rock" and "pure noise" acts who are making at least some pretense towards doing something musical, with or without conventional instrumentation. This album is really just the sound of various scrapers and heavy objects being moved around on a concrete or metal floor, with little or no tonality other than that normally produced by such activity, as well as squeaking hinges and what-not. It's not "found sound" because they're moving things intentionally, and while the intent isn't musical, it's also not completely random. So rather than call it "noise" or "anti-music" (the latter being their preferred term) I'd go with something like the "Busy Workplace Activity" genre. Also, if you have one of the original pressings of this LP in your record collection it could be worth quite a lot of money, because there were only 100 of them and several prominent figures within the avant garde have cited them as a seminal influence — even though they presumably consider themselves anti-avant garde, just as they're anti-everything else. So, recommended if you don't like anything.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
