The most delicious thing about this album is the stark contrast in tone between Simone and her ex-label-mates. It brought to mind a J. G. Ballard story, in which he contemplates a man swimming lengths of the chlorinated pool at his rented villa, just a short walk from the sea. Simone affords the same beauty and threat as the open ocean.
