Not Szabo's best, that's for sure. I have a soft spot for this sort of approach to instrumental covers of pop tunes--sort of like Booker T & the MGs--and I love Szabo's playing style, but this whole thing sounds muffled and fuzzy, and the performances...maybe could have used another take on some of these tracks, I think he leaves a little meat on the bone. There are much better Gabor Szabo albums (The Sorcerer, High Contrast, Spellbinder, Jazz Raga eg) but even here I get a kick out of listening to his explorations of this kind of style on short pop covers.
