Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

A nearly perfect album, with the exception of "I Before E Except After C", which is... well, let's just ignore that. Pretend it never happened. Also, the North American replacement of "Tuesday" (which is still a good song) with "Situation" (a great song) is an improvement that again, makes this near perfection. Just leave that 1 track off your playlist, you know the one.

A tremendous debut for synth-pop duo Yaz featuring Vince Clarke (formerly of Depeche Mode) and soulful singer Alison Moyet. "Don't Go" "Situation" and "Only You" are still dancefloor classics, heard in numerous re-mixes long into the 2010s. Moyet's vocals proved to be the human element needed to breathe life into Clarke's mechanical musical textures. He found a perfect vocal male sound alike in his next project Erasure.

This album is a spectacular synth pop 80s album. Hell of a voice!

OK, maybe it was my more up-beat sensibility at the time (which hasn't really changed that much in the thirty-odd years since - a killer riff in an upbeat pop song is still irresistible), but I think this album is a classic and one of my all-time favourites. Basic synth pop of its time but the bare Vince & Allison combo I found to be enchanting and every track lives with me to this day!

Its definetely better Depeche Mode than Depeche Mode in 1982.

Good synthpop, but nothing spectacular. My rating is reflective of the cersion without "i before e" but including "the other side of love" (65) and "situation" (75).
