For anyone who's interested or curious about Shoegaze this box-set is excellent but for anyone who's a fan it's a god-send. I started reading the UK music press in the autumn of 89 so I started seeing many of the bands getting their very first interviews i.e Lush, Ride, Pale Saints etc etc but even so, one quarter of the bands collected here I've never heard of much less listened to e.g. Coaltar of the Deepers, Astrobrite etc etc - and I was there to the end buying Slowdive's Pygmalion on release. But anyway...Shoegaze was more or less the sound of my adolescence and by far, my favourite indie genre but what made it all the more bittersweet, even tragic, was the vicious backlash started by the NME and Melody Maker after initially championed it. Some of the reviews were savage...but at least now it's now being re-appraised and re-assessed as the innovative, pioneering music it was and always had been. Shine on.
