Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 17% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 70.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.3.

Great album. After the jangly indie guitar debut in 1985 (which I loved) they went and lived in the US touring constantly, playing dives and busking and they said that this really helped hone their musicianship and song-writing. Which shows.

'Waking Hours' is what many consider to be Del Amitri's true debut album. Released four years after their post-punk debut, 'Waking Hours' introduced the very Wallflowers-like alternative sound the band is famous for, as well as some of Del Amitri's most well-known singles. Everything on this album sounds and feels different from the debut; from the radio-friendly melodies to the mature lyrics and the deep instrumentation.

Through happy anthems and vulnerable ballads, Del Amitri proves that they have what it takes to craft successful alternative rock songs with s folk-rock vibe. It's a mix that makes every song memorable. This is one of those rare albums without any bad or forgettable songs.

If there ever was an essential album within the adult contemporary Celtic alternative genre, this album is definitely it.
