I don't love every song by this band, but the ones that get me get me good. Mangum alone with his guitar is able to evoke such depths of feeling and bizarre emotion that I can't help but react accordingly: boys with various heads, pianos in flames, lots of skin and a strange remembrance of 1940's Europe swarm this band's output. I don't really know what the lyrics want to say but I suspect I am witnessing something major and profound.

The greatest gift this site has given me is discovering these guys. Jeff Magnum's lyrical imagery is on a Dylan level and his voice is one of the most passionate and emotional voices ever. I really hope he makes some more music sometime in the future

Not really a fan of On Avery Island, but ITAOTS is genius. I wish they had put out more so I could actually give them a legit score.
These guys have probably the best lyricism I have seen in an artist, followed very closely by Radiohead, Modest Mouse, and Bob Dylan, but can be repetitive.

The 'Helpful' button should be change to 'Agree'. Half the negative votes are for comments that are helpful, but people downvote because they disagree with a negative (or moderate) comment about NMH. I like IAAOTS, but it's OK to struggle with it's brilliance. C'mon, BEA - tolerate a diversity of opinion - you're big enough to do that, no?
