Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 75.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.6.

I must give them credit as one of if not the most influential band to the more intense subgenres of metal.
I mean, I'm not a big fan of metal, and I don't really listen to them, but the fact the they are this low in the overall rankings is ridiculous for one of the most iconic metal bands ever.
My favorite from the big four. They're the fastest & darkest of them.
Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King's dual guitar riffs are just mind blowing. Their solos are kinda bad, but I guess I can live with that.
Favorite songs: Chemical Warfare, Black Magic, South Of Heaven, Raining Blood
RAINING BLOOD!!!!
When I first started playing guitar Slayer was one the bands that I wanted to sound like. Of the big four I feel Metallica created the best albums (though all four have equally great material) but no one has been more consisting in creating great material than Slayer. They may have only one miss in their career (Diabolus in Musica) which is far less than the others. Truly one of the greatest.
SLLLLAAAAYEEERRRRR!!!!!! No one thrashes harder and faster and louder than Slayer. Dave Lombardo is not only one of the greatest metal drummers, but one of the best overall drummers. Reign in Blood is the thrash bible.
Slayeeeeeeeeer!!
Great metal band! They outlived all of their peers (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth) by a long shot. Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax all sold out but Slayer never strayed from their true colors. I do think the creativity lacks on most of their recent albums but they kicked some serious ass in the 80s and early 90s. Best Slayer albums in order: Reign In Blood, Hell Awaits, South Of Heaven, Seasons In The Abyss, and World Painted Blood. I highly recommend each of those albums from possibly the greatest metal band of all time (although Metallica and Iron Maiden would be good arguments against that).
