Don't hear Zevon talked about anywhere near enough. His work was often backed by classic 70s soft rock flavours, but there was a darkness to the lyrics that I don't hear in many other songwriters of the era. Excitable Boy (the song) is about a necrophiliac murderer, for crying out loud. And there's a song on that album about a soldier who gets his head blown off and ends up haunting the guy that killed him. Zevon's dark stories have been with me a long time, and I love them dearly - I've only heard his first couple of albums, but he deserves more love based on those alone.
