Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 71.5/100, a mean average of 69.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.2.

Some very good singles, whole albums do not hold up
One of the best pop-fluff artists of all time. You're always aware of the underlying cheesiness of their music, which generally tends to be fairly predictable, but that doesn't really matter. As far as pop music goes, it's of a higher quality than many of their contemporaries and is always enjoyable to listen to; it's that reliability that makes Duran Duran an enduring pop act.
A great and enduring band who combined many genres was definitely influenced by The Beatles, David Bowie and Roxy Music but who took it a step further.
This was a band a despised as a kid. All the popular kids loved them and the girls all had Le Bon on their walls. On giving them another listen, they were probably the best of their genre. Good vocalist, some funky bass playing, solid guitar licks atmospheric synth drenching, and one song that doesn't sound dated; Ordinary World. Still despise them though...
So dated sounding, it makes me cringe hearing their singing.
first 2 albums are great, started to suck after 1985 though
Awesome band, still one of my favorites that I listen to today.
Duran Duran is definitely underrated here. Unique, engaging sound and musical style - numerous hit songs. Still don't really sound dated after 25 years due to being so distinctive.
May have to find room for Rio and Seven and the Ragged Tiger in my chart somewhere...just really hard to.
