Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Very much enjoyed your picnic chart. Some stellar twee pop recommendations and some with which I am already familiar. I got here through Sodastream's "A Minor Revival" and am looking for similar sounding music from down under. I found plenty of options on your picnic list. One Scottish band you might want to listen to, if you're ever at a loss of your twee-ness, might I suggest The Trash Can Sinatras. Thanks again. Great chart!

I tried to have a picnic to the above listed albums. I danced myself so silly I trod on the jam sandwiches and slipped over in the jelly. I had to spend 4 hours in A&E as a result.
Moral - this chart is not suitable for a picnic. I still like it though.

And another fantastic indie chart. I now checked out Allo Darlin and Camera Obscura and I have to admit that they are awesome. Big recommendation fot you: Lonely Drifter Karen - Fall Of Spring. I can not imagine a picnic without them
