Top 10 Greatest Music Albums
by davidyt

Baby Boomer (born before 1960). Picked up a guitar in the 60's and thought I was going to be a superstar

I compiled this chart on the basis that I will be stranded on a desert island for the rest of my days and my only luxury is an MP3 player with my 10 favourite albums.

My tastes in music have always been varied and music has always been my escape. The older I get , the more appreciative I become of today's music. There is a heap of great stuff out there.

One of the biggest ear openers for me is iTunes / internet and the Rolling Stone top 500 album list.
I heard this album (from 1959) for the first time in 2014. Played the samples on iTunes and bought the Kind of Blue the same day. Haven't stopped playing it.
I urge everyone who has not heard this album to do so. It includes brilliant saxophone solo from John Coltrane (didn't he end up at Hogwarts?). Anyway, listen to it a couple of times . A worthy number 2 in my chart

There is so much material from the Stones but in the end Let it Bleed edged Exile on Main Street. The Stones is all about gutsy , dirty rock and roll. I also want to have the energy levels of Jagger when I'm 75. [First added to this chart: 11/25/2014]

How i wish mobile phones had been invented in the 70's.
I remember watching Tir Na Nog at a festival in Essex (UK) playing their distinctive calm, soothing blend of Irish Folk music from this album. Nothing unusual about that except behind them a gang of Hells Angels and ice cream sellers were trying to kill one another. One of many bizarre moments of the period I witnessed.

Here's a curve ball.
If you can manage to see through Dolly Parton's hair, boobs and botox, you will soon realise that she is an immensely talented singer/songwriter. However, in addition to this, Dolly Parton possesses a unique quality- Dolly Parton is the only person on the planet able to make people feel good about themselves.

Take an hour to listen to and/or watch Dolly Parton on TV and you may realise what I mean. Besides, if I am stuck on a desert Island I will need something to cheer me up from time to time.

Simply covers the period of change music was going through at the time. Joe Strummer is the best stage name ever. Strummer was another talented British musician (except he born in Turkey). I was totally stunned on hearing about his premature death.
Apart from being a great album, London Calling chronicles the changes we experienced in the UK

Every now an then I feel a need to listen to gutsy, dirty blues from one of the masters. Shame that we needed Clapton's abomination of crossroads to draw our attention to the real master.
I try to imaging myself being in the audience listening to this. Robert Johnson influenced so many people and any aspiring blues guitarist should hang his/her head in shame if this album doesn't feature amongst their personal top 10 albums.

If I could play a guitar properly this is how I would like to be.
Even if you hate Jazz you really need to listen to this collection of master pieces. Reinhardt lost the use of three of his fingers as result of an accident. If that wasn't bad enough, it was the fingers of his left hand (fretboard).
Ask most guitarists and they will tell you that Django Reinhardt was the best guitarist ever.

As people , I consider Gilmour and Waters among the most obnoxious greedy b*stards in the music business. Their treatment of Syd Barrett was appalling . However Floyd do produce great music and I always seem to remember where I was or what I was doing when I first heard each of their albums. Meddle has it by a long way Sit down, play it loud and indulge in some herbs if you must.
