I remember hearing about Bowie's death on the radio. I turn on NPR Morning Edition and heard Bowie mentioned and I thought it must have been promotion for his new album that he had just released. Unfortunately a moment later they said that he had died. So sad. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2016]

Leonard Cohan passed away right around the American election which God's people really upset and on bad nerves. Saturday Night Live featured a segment where the losing candidate played a Leonard Cohen song and I was kind of emotional no matter who you voted for. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2016]

I had known about Guy Clark for quite some time. A Friend of Mine played a lot of his songs and it wasn't until I started listening to Guy Clark than I realized that he had penned all of these songs that I have heard. I was obsessed with the album old number one at the end of last year and into most of 2016 so I was really dismayed when I heard that he died in April 2016 while I was still in the midst of being interested in the music he had been offering for the past four decades. Guy Clark Townes Van Zandt and his wife Susan we're all a match made in heaven and now they are there to stay. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2016]

Rip Merle Haggard

This is a great recording. I really enjoy listening to this year. I watched a movie called The Strangers this year. It was a horror movie. They played a Merle Haggard song which I thought was funny because Merle Haggard's backing band was called The Strangers, which was also the name of that movie

RIP Ralph Stanley

I had been really interested in the Stanley Brothers this year and last year so I was really sad when Ralph Stanley's death broke out in the news however he was old and it was only a matter of time. His older brother Carter died in 1966 and Ralph was unsure of whether he wanted to carry on music without his brother at that time. Cheered on by fans he continued a solo career and continued singing and playing music up until his death. I really recommend the Mercury recordings of the 1950's. Incredible live recorded music.

RIP Gene Wilder

A man that left behind a great legacy in this movie and Mel Brooks movies and in so many others. What are great person to influence young people to be true and sincere. I can't imagine anybody better and the role of this Roald Dahl character. Not even Johnny Depp.

RIP Don Parmley

Unlike many of the artists on this list Don Parmley retired early. He is best known for playing the banjo on background music for the show The Beverly Hillbillies and for playing in a band with his son David called the Bluegrass Cardinals. The father and the son call write and perform a song here and called Blue is the color of Lonesome. Like Merle Haggard, they hailed from California.
