Probably the finest songwriting to come out of Texas in the 20th century was from Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, and they were the closest of friends, along with the woman in the photograph on the album cover. That's Guy Clark's wife Suzanne and she was close to both Guy and Townes. This album is a kind of tribute to her, since she passed just prior to its recording.
Guy passed in 2016, making this his last studio album. The bad health and ailments are obvious, but the good songwriting still comes through. An interesting addition is the song The Death of Sis Draper, based on a song he had previously released. Critics loved this album and I think it is fitting for a final farewell to this national treasure.
