Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

An undeniably good chart full of classics, it just seems a little short on contemporary albums for someone of your age. Do you see much live music? I find that very much colours my opinions of albums, Alligator may not be my top album if I hadn't seen The National playing the songs from it in a tiny room in the Manchester Students Union. 19 albums in common though, you have ondoubted good taste ;)

Big fan of this one! 38 albums in common. I wouldn't worry about it being too boring of a list, there's definitely enough cool picks sprinkled in with the classics to keep it interesting

Great chart. I like all of these albums. I struggled with Nas at first but repeated listens has it growing on me bigtime. Great to see Iron Maiden. Great album. 33 albums in common. Not too shabby.
