Top 16 Music Albums of 1982
by mrmcrook

The early 80's years were a fucking goldmine. Another year with a majority of gems. Mainly when NWOBHM was ruling supreme. Studio albums ranked ahead of Compilations etc

My favorite songs from 1982
Iron Maiden - Hallowed be Thy Name
Dead Kennedys - Halloween
Motorhead - Iron Fist
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Saxon - Princess of the Night
Grace Jones - Nipple to the Bottle
Rainbow - Death Alley Driver
Judas Priest - Riding on the Wind
Roxy Music - More Than This

99.12* If you were explaining the definition of NWOBHM to someone, this is the album that perfectly summarizes it. Absolute fucking perfection. Was once the favorite Maiden album. Was once overtaken by Powerslave. Now back to favorite 04/25 [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

91.846* This is the album that has had the biggest influence on me. Lyrically, this is the greatest album ever. This tells it how it is, a great reality dose. Probably the album I've listened to more times than anything else. Still love it every time. 'Halloween' being my favorite of all DK songs. 11/25 [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

86.00 This was among the first lot of albums I got once I became obsessed with music, specially metal. First Saxon album I got. They do live well. More energy and a rawer gruntier sound than the studio versions. 04/24 [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

84.58 This was the first Motorhead album I bought. Hence it holds a special place in my heart. Title track is one of the best songs they do. The amazing thing with this band is that each of their songs on not just this, but all albums are all so individual and to their own. Unlike other bands that play at this speed where most songs all sound the same. Long live fucking Motorhead. [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

84.571* Grace Jones is bloody great. This would be my favorite from her. I like every song on it, first 3 being the ultimate starters. But all other tracks have grown on me well and stand on their own merit 02/26 [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

84.00 This was one of the first albums I bought as a young adult once I'd discovered my love for metal. Good Priest album. Not their best but up there. Reason being, the standout tracks are killer. Now, I thought there was a few tracks that I always seemed to deem as filler. On a recent listen I've discovered they're not as bad as I thought. [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

83.88 Must be a thing with Richie Blackmore. Think Deep Purple when Gillan was singing; it rocked. Then they changed style when Coverdale took over on vocals and it went in a softer soul direction. With Rainbow, he's done a similar thing. Dio years rocked, but then with Joe Lynn Turner is like they went into a more rockier AOR sound. Still a fantastic album though. Bit under rated. 12/24 [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

75.397* The singles from this (Avalon & More Than This) are easily the best tracks on the album and pretty much set the tone for how the whole album is sound and style wise. Predominantly synth heavy with a few tracks sitting in the filler category 12/25 [First added to this chart: 01/15/2025]

75.00 The title track's pretty iconic. With the earlier albums from George, you know what you're getting. And this is as George as you can get. [First added to this chart: 10/25/2023]
