100 Best Australian Albums
by
videoheadcleaner
100 Best Australian Albums is a compendium of rock and pop albums of the past 50 years as compiled by music journalists Toby Creswell, Craig Mathieson and John O'Donnell. The book was published on 25 October 2010. According to O'Donnell, "It wouldn't be a good list if it didn't polarise people and we hope that this list will. We also hope that it will get people sitting around comparing their favourites and discovering or re-discovering these great albums and others".

100 Best Australian Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.2/100, a mean average of 82.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 17.5.

I usually become a Aus Music fanboy more during November so sorry in advance. The current survey is TIMELINE 1st-10th - Nominations in 14th-24th - Finalist poll…”

Interesting, but only one album from the best band to come from Australia by a long way, Masters Apprentices.
Shocking omission's - A toast to Panama red & Choice cuts, unbelievable. (Edited)

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds should hold down 5 of the top ten spots on this chart they are that good. Picking just 1 in the top 80 is laughable.

Not my list - The Apartments are a non-entity it seems to most people. I think they have had further success overseas than in Australia.
