55/100
Talking about my stance on music today, and my high marks on new musicians, Bladee stands as the big dog with Soccer Mommy and Quadeca right beneath. With the exception of Spiderr, every album of his during the 2020s has been a favorite in my field. Exeter, 333, The Fool and the outstanding collab with Ecco2K that is Crest are all incredible and are wanna the greatest four-album runs in my music-history book. Therefore, it's disappointing how many Bladee rules Bladee is breaking on Cold Visions. First off, the record is bloated. I know my Bladee as a guy who makes precise 30-45 minute ethereal cloud trap banger records with 9-16 songs on it. This is over an hour long with 30 songs, and there are bound to be filler and boy there is. Secondly, this is an instance where Bladee doesn't sound him or original: another astonishing thing about him is his creative and hazy (or I guess you could say drain) way of spinning an already existing sound into his own colorful atmosphere. Here, he is jumping into the rage pool, but he doesn't do anything about it. In fact, it sounds like pretty much all over rage I have heard; fake intensity, lazy and painfully uninteresting. His laid-back flow makes it, at worst, sound like fever dreams. Thankfully, he doesn't stoop too low, and the record mostly is okay at autopilot. Most of the tracks are averagely good. But except the surreal Flatline , the throwback to childlike Bladee on Only God Is Made Perfect , the development of where Red Light left off with End of The Road Boyz , the continuation of where The Fool left off with Dont Do Drugz , Otherside that's a dialogue between rapping and harmonizing Bladee as well as a cutsy synth in the background , and that standard drainsound on Cannot End On A Loss (Outro), there is no reason for me to make it my choice to repetitiously spin when so many of his other great albums exist right there.
Though the lyrics are more stream-of-consciousness than ever, which I'll give credit for, they lost the quirkiness that made them pop out.
