This is my favorite ever album cover in 3 categories that makes imho a fantastic album cover
1. childlike tendencies (like how it is drawn could very easily be a children's book or something - except the naked couple)
2. drawings (just something of interest lately)
3. mysterious and fascinating story-telling (I just want to jump into the album cover, head first, and explore these worlds)

There are a lotta things to say about this magnificent cover, but if you watch theneedledrop's video "I saw Jeff Mangum" and look at the way it's greenscreened on his wall, that says a lot about the pure beauty of it. [First added to this chart: 04/10/2019]

This picture is cool and relaxing at the same time. The blue shirt and shirtlessness as well as the horse completely matches the colors of the stones that makes the house and the title font are a great significant other to the potency of not only the artwork but the music itself. I read this as a metaphor of being broken and directionless. The brokenness is the beige paper, not being a computerized one color, like the facade is giving up, falling apart. Directionless is the bird, that just sits there, lost, with red yarn around its neck (that represents a past celebration of sorts). Or I just love this kind of simplicity and all sorts of animals.

Oh and the font fits exceptionally well as well.

The man’s directly there, with a cigarette, unworried looking in the fourth wall, and smiling like he knows exactly what’s up. If you end up disliking the record, he be there laughing at you being stupid. If the opposite, he be there laughing as if he saw it coming easily. And if you end up loving and playing the album like any anticipated fan when it came out, he be there grinning and smoking at your other (jealous) records. Plus this is effortlessness at best. In context like this being #100, he be there laughing like “høhø, I broke through the list” to all the other albums, standing outside the door of my top 100 (aka my honorable mentions). Finally need to say, he also just look like the picture was taken by a topless lady. [First added to this chart: 04/10/2019]

I have a very very soft spot for album covers that not only takes usage of one particular cover/mood, but can make it work. This is the quintessential example. And, it's an oldie, it's a classic - the cover itself with Frankie and his cigarette out in the night is a mood. [First added to this chart: 11/08/2020]
