Shoutout Max for five stellar pop songs with no pretense, just straight catchy and easily digestible pop songs. The thing he does best. My favorites are Best4u with that guitar chord progression I am a sucker for in pop (Christian coming through with that maan it's awesome), and Salty with its profound groove. Lesgoo.

These guys are from my college, and they are basically just making house pop rap music, about our exact college. Not my cup of tea in terms of style, but fuck me they rock the stage. It goes harder live than on record, but some of the cuts here are still enjoyable, Begær (translation: Lust) still being the lyrically richest and most charming one. The two other songs worth saving are the hit single HumTækkerLækker alongside the ironic and pleasing Banditter I Habitter, a song based off of a danish crime series in 2024, and just like that series went viral for the right seasons, this pop song gives you a smirk for the right satisfying reasons.

I was cautious picking an R&B album of the year to listen to, since they usually would come with influence from electronic music that would make the entire experience go to dumpster. There was none of that on Still, and...still (totally did that on purpose) much of the record felt derivative. Erika needs to hone more passion or vulnerability in her sweet softness to provoke something. Luckily, during the second half, there are flagments of alt-pop and post-Aaliyah r&b conduct that provides more personality and joyfulness to the ear, mostly bright in Twince's indietronica or the reverb of Ex-Girlfriend.

This album goes in many directions, and like one of my favorite pop albums, We Sing We Dance We Steal Things by Jason Mraz, each feels like a potential career. Rebecca Maria Stougaard Molina, or simply Molina, vocally has nothing that doesn't sound like Fraser, point blank (...well except Neverland). But her arrangements are more than the Cocteau Twins worship on songs like Navel. She also swings over art rock (averagely on I Am Your House and completely forgettable on Flowers), half-assed jazz pop (A New Day), kind of intriguing drone alt (The Valleys of Tomé), nasty trip-hop a la Gorillaz (Scorpio) and then ending with the most fascinating cut of Organs, both a song of art rock, dream pop and indietronica. Her way of unimpressively conveying melodies can sink the significance that When You Wake Up is striving for.

How do you go from sounding insufferable on one track (Whys, Coasting) to sounding comfy as heckfire (Losing Tennessee, Smile) to sounding like mid indie pop rock (Big Muzzy)? That goes to show that Fine don't know when they are playing something cohesive and nice, and when they are playing something inferior to what is worth anybody's time, even A Star sounds like diet Mazzy Star. And why around the 1-minute mark of Days Incomplete (one of the many tracks where the ideas don't feel coherent played next to each other, and to me proves that Fine have no idea how to write a nonconventional song) does the instrumentation suddenly get worse for some time?
