Half the album sounds like standards you would hear at any swing jazz club, the other half being intriguing blend of spirituality and indo instrumentation that he tried and never quite nailed on his two previous records.
The two exceptions are the classy Soothing Mercy because that piano performance is too stellar, and the half-grown nature of Forgive Me, never playing something that hits you like the other indo tracks. [First added to this chart: 08/24/2025]

The atmospheric Saaqi and the adventourous yet tender Whisky are what makes Arooj Aftab the artist I know her for, why Vulture Prince was such a highlight for 2021. However, I have no clue what she does for the rest of Night Reign. Where is the astonishing singing? Where is the charismatic playing? Why are their awkward spoken words sequences? Why is their one song where she sounds like she's being a bit autotuned? Sorry, but overall this is mid. [First added to this chart: 08/24/2025]
