Original post:

I thought this was a great idea last year that kinda petered out for whatever reason. So how do you guys feel about reviving it?

Basically the idea is for users to highlight 2014 albums of their choice (preferrably those that haven't been discussed much in other threads), which are then discussed about in a thread, dedicated to it. Last year I thought that some people tried to pick an album, that no other person on the site has listened to. Of course, you're welcome to pick albums like that (but please make it something that people can listen to (legal links, streaming sites)), but don't feel obligated to do just that. I think the main idea here is to have a discussion about albums that aren't discussed elsewhere. Maybe the lack of success last year was partially due to most people not really having a desire to listen to some really obscure albums that couldn't even be found on streaming sites. Besides, I think that no matter what album you choose (unless it's a really "big" release), there will be lots of people that hadn't heard it yet.

Because there haven't been that many albums released yet, I was thinking we start this at the end of the month, or beginning of February. Until then, everybody who wants to join, post in this thread. Last year, there seemed to be some confusion with determining the next person to post their threads, so I'm thinking we do this more openly (in this thread) and ahead of time. For a start, I would need 2-4 users to volunteer and keep track of new releases this month, so they can kick this off and post the threads when we start this. Then, as first threads are posted, we decide on the next few users to have their turn next. Basically I think that every time a thread is posted, we should already know whose turn is it next.

About specific threads - when you open a thread, I think it's welcome (especially if you choose an obscure release) to do a short write-up, or tell others more about the album. I mean, nobody's gonna force you to write anything, but as I mentioned, the key here is to spark a discussion, not just post an album that others may or may not listen to.

Another note - obviously I was thinking that we do this one album a week, but if there's a huge number of people who want to join, we could also do more than that. But we'll see about that...

Any other ideas, suggestions? Otherwise, post in this thread if you're interested in joining, also mention if you're up for doing it already late this month or February - it just means you need to listen to some new releases until then.

Yes! I'm in. I really enjoyed it last year and discovered one of my top-10 albums of the year from this, so I'd love to do it again.
