Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.0/100, a mean average of 69.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.8.

Going off into prog territory can work for some. This however misses the mark. There are some really great segments and pieces within most songs but then they go off on too many tangents disrupting the flow. Don't over complicate things. Sometimes simple can work and sound a lot better.
More toes in the prog pool which I like, I know Iron Maiden purists won't like the this. Still has a very heavy template. I like the drums on the opener, full on from the off.
Another strong Iron Maiden record. It's all overlong and proggy and as I've said on other latter day Maiden albums, there's no short punchy anthemic metal anthems, just tracks that go on forever. Still, very enjoyable.
It's a toss up between this one and No Prayer for the dying for my least favourite Bruce Dickinson Maiden album
I was so disappointed when I heard this after their three previous triumphant return of Bruce albums.
I tried listening to it on numerous occasions as people kept saying how good it is
- however, Nothing hit me or excited me about this effort
- I will in the future persevere and listen again , because not everyone can be wrong ..... can they ???
If you want to try Maiden out just avoid this, No Prayer, and the Blaize Bailey efforts and you will be fine
after 30 years they still come up with such an incredible album.
Maiden still rules! Love Starblind!
This is probably the best metal album of the year. It also has the most "studio pizzazz" of any Iron Maiden album to date.
