I thought the best track was something like: Imma stand by my woman, cause if I don't she'll kill me.
hahaha
Anyway, at first I really liked this record and then it became a bit samey for me. I really like some of the songs.
What I've noticed is a lot of the mediocre music album wise actually would sound great in a playlist (as discovered by putting all my 2017 music in a playlist).

I really love Big Boi's rapping. He's got this really fast delivery which still amazes me how tight it is. Other rappers rap fast and tight, but dude's got something special.
The album took off near the end for me. The beginning was kind of lacking.
This is another album which in the mix probably half of it is worth a listen.

Weezer? Sheryl Crow? Are you sure you've got your finger on the pulse of 2017? ๐
Seriously though, looking forward to a list of favourites emerging from this diary. Personally, id be struggling to do a top 5 for 2017 so would be interesting to see what I've missed.
Also, I thought that Alt-J is more of a band than a solo thing, right?

You may have forgotten the title of the journal is an idiot listens to 2017... hahaha.
Oh probably on Alt-J.
Also my 2017 list top 30 are worth a listen in my opinion. I'm not done yet with the list or discovering.
Also very glad I found Vulfpeck and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Those two are bands that have a post 2010 debut (of what I know... haven't verified), who I actually really like. It's kind of hard for me to find such artists (although I'm not purposely looking either).

Totally get where you're at with not discovering many new artists. I hear a lot that I like, but not many that really sticks as favourites. Oh well, it was fun being young while it lasted ๐คฃ Vulfpeck actually sound pretty fun to me. I'll check them out.

I thought Alligator was pretty good, but the rest of their albums I was kind of bored with. I started out so with this album too, but it actually might be cracking my shell with them. To be honest they seem boring like U2 has become, but do it better and a quality level I'd expect from them, but they aren't performing.
Sleep Well Beast by The National
Wow. Songs of Innocence I was equally pissed about and it actually grew on me, but geez is this album terrible. There's a song that sounds reminiscent to a U2 I respect near the end, and Blackout is pretty good for their "new" sound, but overall this album is just really hard for me to listen to.
Songs Of Experience by U2
I like me some Rancid, but I wouldn't call me a fan and this album had some classic Rancid sounding stuff, but nothing really worth listening to again. This was the first time where I felt old (at least some of the older artists are generating new sounding material).
Trouble Maker by Rancid
Didn't find anything on here terribly interesting. I wasn't really a fan of their albums anyway.
Ti Amo by Phoenix
Normally I'd just say the lyrics in this album is from an angsty band putting on some kind of bandwagon thing. But these lyrics are REALLY hard to listen to. Geez, even the album name. What's so messed up, is the music/tone is actually really happy. FTW.
One More Light by Linkin Park
Idk - it's not something I really can get into. I know this is a less liked point of view, but I do feel like he's trying too hard if that makes any sense. Like it doesn't feel like a natural thing. Plus it's just boring as hell (imo of course).
This Old Dog by Mac DeMarco
I really like the signature bass the lead singer has. But this just isn't my cup o' Joe.
Emperor Of Sand by Mastodon
This band is dead to me basically ever since their "hiatus". I remember thinking I really liked their vibe, and thought they had a somewhat intriguing new sound, but now it's just please die.
8 by Incubus
Another band putting out an album this year and wasn't worth my time:
Novum by Procol Harum
Reminded me of why I don't listen to his music. While sometimes I like his interviews, his music just seems for those with low IQs.
Heaven Upside Down by Marilyn Manson
