Mac Demarco is an artist that I have always enjoyed. His albums are always pleasant enough to listen to, and even more so, his personality is just infectious. That being said, this is the first of his albums that goes above and beyond just being a good listen. You can hear him really going outside his comfort zone on this one, though it's not revolutionary or experimental by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he really shines when he puts his own honesty to music rather than trying to be trendy. This is very much his Plastic Ono Band effort, which works nicely as he has cited that album as one of his favorites.

I was looking forward to this release and expected it to be good like all his other work, but the result truly surpassed all my expectations. Looking forward to seeing where Mac goes from here.

Nothing revolutionary, but it's another solid Mac album. I'm still waiting for him to do something more out of the box, but I have yet to see much of that. There are some tracks on this album that have a style of their own, though. Wouldn't consider better than Salad Days or 2, but it's still good.

Pretty impressive how Demarco manages to keep his sound fresh without going in a radically different direction. I like this album a lot. It's very relaxed (as you'd expect) but it's also pretty conceptual dealing themes of maturity, ageing and companionship. Personally, Demarco's album's tend to sync up quite well with what's going on in my own life and this album is no exception.

Mac seems to have traded slacker anthems for more introspective melancholy songs, not that I'm complaining moonlight on the river is easily his best song to date, this album echoes plastic ono band in feel of rawness it seems this has marked a new direction for mac which I hope he dives into

This is not a terrible album but it's kind of boring and sterile. I'm also getting a bit tired of hearing the same sound on every album Mac releases. He needs to reinvent himself if he wants to stay relevant, most people aren't tired of the type of stuff he releases like I am but if he keeps going like this more and more people are going to get to that point.
