Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.6/100, a mean average of 77.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.1.

Going through Mike's discography, this album is total triumph. Sublime. To anyone knew to Perfume Genius, if you aren't going to give the entire discography a listen start to finish I'd recommend first listening to his sophmore release (which I also gave a perfect score) and then listen to this to really get what I mean. The transformation is down right inspiring. The first 6 tracks are all superb. Die 4 You is perfection. And the closer (Alan) is beautiful. The rest is still great, but these stand out the most. The collab on sides turns out really well too, but doesn't quite touch these in my opinion. Great listen start to finish. How is Mike not THE queer icon in pop culture?
pretty incredible

Honestly blew me away the first time I listened to it. I checked it out from the library and didn't really know what to expect since I've never heard of Perfume Genius. Was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Pretty sure I even rated it as my favorite album of 2017 after only like two listens.
I absolutely love this record. Really beautiful, ethereal pop that conveys the feeling of love in such a unique and poetic way. Some really interesting experimentation on this album and some really lovely sounds in the background. I completely agree with this being viewed as his best release to date.
Yhhh not nearly the chamber pop magnum opus everyone is claiming it is, but it's good enough.
I wonder how much slaves we are to authority...
This artists albums are ranked exactly in accordance with Pitchforks ranking of them, and in a quite unusual order. Pitchfork and this site seems to think he is getting better all the time. That's not completely unique, but not common. The other way around seems to be the trend?
We have a reviewer in a large paper in Sweden, that seems to have very similar taste as me, so I focus on his reviews. When I was younger, I followed some others. He totally adored Perfume Genius first album but has then left his praise for mellow but positive reviews.
The reviewer could have changed? The quality of Perfume Genius could have disappeared? The reviewer was influenced by someone when praising the first album? Or he did not simply like the change? Expected something else? Or maybe I have no clue?
I will get to the bottom with this :) I was a bit impressed by Perfume Genius first two albums, so there will be no pain in really listening, not only glance, judge, and be done.

How does he follow up the impeccable 'Too Bright ' from 2014 ? You don't , that album is a modern classic.
How ever 'No Shape' is excellent . Confession time: I'm a complete PG fan boy and pretty much love all of his work so anything I write is completely biased in a positive way
Another PG album has landed on my years best list in 'No Shape'

75/100
This entrancing, gorgeous, devastating record shows the extent of Mike Hadreas' songwriting talents. In fact, I wouldn't even say "shows". Standouts like "Slip Away", "Go Ahead" and "Die 4 You" prove Mike is just showing off at this point. Listen to this record, and *try* not to feel something. Easier said than done.

Every minute is full of life and I really fell in love with it.
