Cigarettes After Sex are a one trick pony, but the trick is addictive. Each song makes like Slowdive covering The Velvet Underground’s ‘Candy Says’. It shouldn’t work but it does, and before long their paens to love and lust will have dragged you under in their undertow. (Edited)

It's really pretty, but if ever someone's debut was formulaic. It's too long to be this one-dimensional.
Strong debut.
Extremely samey...the entire album feels like one long, brooding, intimately honest song (a vast majority of these tracks have an extremely similar structure and tempo), but it works. There are a few casualties due to the overarching sound (some of these tracks are very forgettable on their own) but they all blend together very nicely and it is definitely a coherent work.
CAS feels like a fresh take on the landscape of dreampop -- the usual hallmark euphoria of the genre deteriorates into this bleak and sexy LP.
