Another fantastic Mande album, really loving the discoveries in the genre/scene lately. This one's also my first (iirc) Wassoulou album, which is a West African traditional style where women usually sing about childbearing and fertility. Musically this was (enhanced English accent) splendid. A lot of orhestral cuts, a lot of intimate cuts, great singing. The songwriting didn't blow me away like on Mariama, but the songs were still good. It's one hour and it didn't feel like it was too long at all. Well produced, the songs with Kronos Quartet steal the show. And yet, it's not overproduced, it still sounds warm and natural. A match made in heaven. I hope I'll like the songs even more on subsequent listens, 'cause the lack of true highlights is the only thing keeping it from being in the top 50 of 2000s. 8.5/10

Counterparts is not one of my favourite Rush albums, but a big portion of fanbase loves it. It's a sort of return to form, and a good album overall.

I think this is my first Rush album I got under my belt. And while I want to get more of their catalogue under my belt and will with there 1977 album coming next I will say for an introduction to this band this was really good. Scratch that this was wonderful. Honestly this fulfilled my usual quips for a rock album. And while this doesn't dabble into the heavy prog of there heyday, I still would say the vibe and the full instrumentation kept that spirit. And there wasn't anything that I would complain about. The highlight would be Leave That Thing Alone. But the rest is wonderful. Grade:95. Maybe it will go up, but I want to venture through more of their work before upping my judgement.

Ironically I am listening to this for both games and didn't even notice it until now hehe. I could've responded a while ago...
It's jazzy vibes and the such definitely earn my respect. I remember the first time I listened to this, while I dig the chill jazzy vibes I remember being done with it and not having anything to take away from it. So I didn't fall in love, but I do like it.

This is mostly incredible, always at least quite beautiful and good, its a sad and heartbreaking album by and large. The Future feature wasn't my fave, not because he was bad or it was bad - it was actually pretty cool - but this feels like the kind of album where no one else sheould sing except FKA Twigs, y'know? Other than that one part, this feels like an introspective, nearly flawless art pop album. I may enjoy LP1 slightly more, but its hard to say cuz I haven't heard her debut in a loong time and also I have only heard this once. But yeah the quality seems relatively even either way.

Dengo by Soungalo Coulibaly
Another Malian Mande album, and again a good one. Not as good as the previous two, but it's still really engaging and fun. Soungalo Coulibaly is a drummer, and sure enough percussion on this album is fantastic. All kinds of bells and whistles (bells quite literally). Acoustic guitars were also great on the several cuts which featured them. In fact, I mostly preferred the songs which featured guitar. The singer's voice was fine but nothing special, and the percussion solos did drag at times. Its 50 minute length is certainly felt. However, unlike Drums of Death which I didn't really like, this one had enough variation and different instruments to keep me occupied. Also, there's a lot of intriguing compositional elements. Highlights included the title cut, Lolo, Jina muso and Dali masa. 7.5/10

This was really brutal in a non-metal way. When I think of something that makes me feel this on edge I usually think of metal shit. But no this is not metal but heavier and more brutal than most black metal I've heard. Her voice is absurdly great and there was one song that was almost as hard to listen to as that Korn song where he is crying and screaming for 5 minutes. The music is epic and beautiful as much as it is harrowing and harsh. I saw some comments saying this was a terrifying album. I wouldn't say I was terrified (although there were a couple sudden loud sounds that functioned as jump scares) I'd say it was off-putting and brutally scarred and emotional. Overall, quite a good listen.

So this is the second thing I have listen to Neil Young. The first thing was the 2020 album. And that was decent. Not amazing but also not bad either. And while, I would say I enjoyed this more than the 2020 album. I wouldn't say this made me a big Neil Young fan. I would say when the songs get real good, it does fulfill a great quality. Songs like Harvest Moon, Look Out For My Love, Like A Hurricane musically not vocally do hit. And the other songs, while I can't say I was annoyed I was somewhat miffed by it. I feel like I should enjoy him more. I mean Joni Mitchell with what I have so far, I adore her more. And while I could compare this live album to other picks, I feel like my comparison would be an apple to star fruit rather an apple to orange. But I will always hold on to hope that he will have an album that I adore. But today isn't that day. Grade:75

Oh man this was fantastic. I prefer it greatly to Price of Tea in China, the production is so much better. It sounds fresh as opposed to Alchemist's good but fairly standard and even dated instrumentals. The themes were mostly the same as always with Boldy, but his flow and overall skill are impressive. Plus him rapping over jazzy, abstract beats is something I haven't heard before.

The end of this trilogy of very very different expressions of feminine power, we have this album. FKA Twigs' album was deeply sad and touching, Lingua Ingota's was brutally anguished and hateful and vengeful and also quite touching, this is adventurous, upbeat and ... wait for it...somewhat touching.
Okay, this album is a great sunshiney glitchy pop/artsy/proggy POP meets some wild samples of classical and mild experimentation and a fistful of other goodies thrown in. This makes for a quite charming, grin and head bob inducing journey through a collection of well executed pop tunes. Not exactly my style, or it certainly wasn't when I pushed play, but the charm of the album is very inviting and I felt like a guest being shown around a new exciting place, everyone I met was nice and the hostess was just absolutely lovely and very accomodating. I left the tour feeling like I had learned lots and itching to recommend to others the experience.
It was tricky finding a stream. Actually, it wasn't tricky AT ALL. It just isn't on apple music, bandcamp or spotify (not that i have spotify) and so I found a good sounding long video on youtube which worked fine. I just generally hate not being able to check texts while listening without cutting off the album. I don't have that youtube subscription so I don't have the feature that handles that nuisance. Anyway, first world probs, and overall it was a nice experience over on the ol youtube.
I also love the occasional Bossa Nova stuff here, the old school synthpop, the buoyant J pop sounds, the genral cheery and yet complex sounds were just a feast. Will be going pretty high on my 2019 chart and I suspect it will stay in the upper half for a long or forever.

Thriller - Michael Jackson
It comes with the title of the best selling album of all time. Ignoring one's subconscious negative reaction towards commercially successful music and trying to look past it might not an easy task, but it's definitely worth it. The three tracks sequence of Thriller - Beat It - Billie Jean is the most famous part and it is indeed phenomenal ( with Billie Jean my presonal choice as the best one), but there are a lot of different styles (R&B/funk/disco/rock etc.) successfully blended into a surprisingly cohesive - for something so pop-oriented - and oh so very groovy album. It might be hard to imagaine, but MJ shines even brighter than usual. Not that it matters that much, but I 'd give this a 70.
