Well I'm interested in the best albums about death and mortality or at least have this as a major theme.

Sorry if this is an uncomfortable thread for some people. No need to contemplate these matters if you don't wish to so feel free to give this one a wide birth.

I know a few people found the Mount Eerie album hard to contemplate. I just listened to the first few tracks.

I'm fine btw, in case anyone was wondering Smile

I can't think of many I really like. Here goes though...

Bob Dylan - Time out of mind
Ron Sexsmith- Forever Endeavour

Some maybes...
Tom Waits- Bone Machine
Smog-Dongs of Sevotion
REM- Automatic for the People
Daniel Johnston -1990

I like those ones, but I can't really recall how much they really deal with this theme in a powerful way throughout the album.

I know Warren Zevon wrote an album about his terminal illness. I've not heard this yet though.

Yep, another good one I had forgotten.

This is reminding me of 'Its a Wonderful life' by Sparklehorse.

I wonder if that one counts?

The best:

Alopecia by Why?

Also the best:

Ghosts Of The Great Highway by Sun Kil Moon

Benji is more explicitly death-related, but I didn't dig that quite as much. Surprised not to see it here yet.

DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar

Donuts by J Dilla
This is an instrumental hip-hop album so the vocals aren't very lyrical, but Dilla made this beautiful album in the hospital and released it just three days before his death. It's hard not to think about that while listening.

Benji by Sun Kil Moon

To me one album that tackles death is George Michael's Older. Wonderful record.
