Third gig in the space of about a week, this time an afternoon session at café boheme in London's soho. Great bar which has live music every afternoon. also just a great place to hang out with it's great location on old Compton street and eclectic clientele.
Yesterdays gig was the great Errol Linton playing as part of a trio.
If you are unfamiliar with Errol's music, blues harmonica (probably the best harmonica player on the UK) with a tinge of reggae thrown in although yesterday it was all blues. Only managed to catch the 1st of his two sets but an hour well worth spent listening to great musicians in a convivial atmosphere. Could think of worse ways to spend an afternoon

My late father and i never really agreed on music. Whilst I was discovering Bowie, T-Rex. Roxy Music we never really discussed music at all as he never got what i was into and being a teenager, I dismissed his musical tastes out of hand.
he died more than 40 years ago but some of his albums have resurfaced as we are helping my mother clear decades of "stuff" from her house. Whilst going through some boxes i found a large number of albums some of which are listed below.
it's a pity he died so young as I'm sure that we would have had loads to talk about based on the albums below. Good to know that he had good taste in music, sad that we never got to share with each other.

A Night At The Opera by Queen
that's just a small selection but you get the idea about his taste in music

Another great gig last night, this time at one of my favourite venues, the roundhouse in Camden, London.
After nearly 50 years of gig going, there are still “older” bands on my bucket list and one of these way ticked off last night when I saw the gaslight anthem.
Great set from these springsteenesque rockers. If anyone is thinking of checking them out

I'm soooo jealous! Focus On Nature is probably my favorite record of the year so far.

Fantastic day yesterday at Earth in Dalston, London, UK.
40th anniversary bash put on by Fire Records. All day, starting at 2pm and carried on into the wee hours I'm sure. I left for my last train at around 11.
Hosted by the fabulous Stewart Lee, the line up was;
Josephine Foster
Monde UFO
Immaterial Possession
Steve Wynn & Jason Victor (Dream Syndicate)
Steve Wynn & Jason Victor (Dream Syndicate) W Jane Weaver
Bas Jan
Graham Reynolds
Marta Del Grandi
Kristin Hersh
Islet
Giant Sand
Giant Syndicate (Giant Sand + Steve & Jason & Kristin)
Stellar line up and what a day. I'm thinking of posting some more in-depth thoughts about the day in subsequent posts

Bevis Frond always deliver live. Hadn't appreciated that Nick and the band were touring again. Need to look out to see if they are playing here in London.
Agreed. Focus on Nature is an excellent release. The more I listen to it, the more it's growing on me.

So Josephine Foster live?
Josephine Foster is an American musician. Opening an all day event is not easy I'm sure and I get why she is highly regarded but really not my thing.
A little too ethereal for my tastes. Great voice and the harmonies with her sidekick (forgot her name, sorry) were nice but not kick ass enough for me which is fine as the event was catering for a wide spectrum of tastes.
