Pacific Kiss by Rat Columns

Sounds like: Kiwi Indie poppers binging on Millions Now Living era Tortoise, The Sea & Cake and Teenage Fanclub
Genre: Indie Rock
Location: Australia
Release Date: February 12, 2021

Was going to go with this great black metal album by Hulder or some killer Drone Metal by Divide & Dissolve, but then I heard this and it was a pretty easy choice. Just some great Indie Rock which reminds me most of mid-90s Sea & Cake without sounding derivative.

I'm not going to be around tomorrow since I have stuff with my kids so decided to launch this thread tonight. Hope you like it!

Wait so are they from Australia or New Zealand (or both?)? Either way, your description gets me excited. Going to the top of the queue

Gotcha, makes sense! Just finished listening, nothing that blew me away but it was definitely a solid album. Similar feel to The Beths who are (IMO) one of New Zealand's best acts right now.

This is the 8th one of these so far? I'll probably put this somewhere in the top half of ALC picks. Close call with last week's album.

Yeah this is very derivative but see if I care. It's sunny indie pop. And I love that post-punk edge, makes things a lot more interesting. Athens was a great track. Honestly I've enjoyed this a lot more than I should've cause it's not really my favourite genre. I like indie pop but I'm always the first one to criticize the lack of inventiveness in the genre in the last decade or so. This one fit the mould and yet it's so much fun. Good pick Repo!

There's been a few records this year that've given me the same feel as this one, most notably that hospitable bracelet record, but this is probably my favorite of this type of sound so far this year. The vocal mix is pretty appealing to me and overall it feels like it knows what it's trying to accomplish and does it pretty well.

I repeat this in pretty much every nomination, but what I like the most about this club is that the majority of the picks so far have been albums I would never consider lisetning by myself, which makes the experience so much better. Lots of fun with this one, it almost makes you wish it was summertime, so that you can endlessly fool around without a single care in the world. As the album progresses, it takes some twists and turns, can't tell how I'm feeling about them, at some points I was close to losing focus, I guess a re-listen is necessary in order to be able to properly assess them. Towards the end it picks up the pace again and goes out on a high note. Also, it continues the theme of the previous week, placing entertainment and enjoyability above all other factors- even though they use different means to achieve it, both albums served their purpose to a more than adequate degree - giving me food of thought in view of next week, not sure if I 'm gonna keep the pattern going or not.

Listened a few times. Okay, 2.5 times. And I didn't like it. I liked the music, or at least I found all the elements fine in and of themselves. Outside of the songwriting which I felt was pretty bland, the elements here were fine. The general sound, though, feels like a standard Indie Pop/Rock sound. Nothing captured or moved me.

Not sure what is happening to me, but almost every Indie Rock album I've heard this year has underwhelmed me. I hope to have something rekindle my interest in the genre. For now though I can't say I have much to say about this.

Okay, I thought the production, especially the way the drums sound, is pretty good to great.
