Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.8.

The best Kamelot release and one of the better metal albums of the 21st century. The variety is what sets it apart since they incorporate different sounds that make it more interesting than generic power/prog metal.
Of course I must say that Roy Khan is one of the best metal vocalists of all time.
I feel this is Kamelot's strongest and most balanced release. The duet with Epica lead singer Simone Simons is a highlight. The album is a little top-heavy; the first 4 songs (5 if you count Abandoned) are Kamelot classics, but the rest of the pickings, while good, tend to be less amazing. Still, the sum is greater than the parts; this album works remarkably well as a rock opera. I'd say it's almost up there with Tommy and Scenes From a Memory. Also, as an aside, it would be nice if users actually listen to some of these albums before 5/100'ing everything. I think these albums are too varied to pan that harshly.
