This album is a tale of 2 halves.
The first half of the album was explosively creative, warm, vibrant lush and detailed. It successfully brought together a lot of elements from 70's rock, 30's big band, modern rock, and a showtune style. Catchy melodies and backup vocals highlighted by a string and horn section on top of some punchy guitar and bass lines.
The last 4 tracks were a lot of Bowie/Queen ripoff "meh" and were plagued w/ cliche lyrics (general statement, but I don't care about vocals so whatever) and an unoriginal vocal delivery. Not good to have filler on a 32 minute album. Had a ton of potential and the first half certainly had some excellent moments, it just feels, incomplete and at times uninspired.

Hang is one of THE best Albums in 2017 , and sits comfortably in my top 3 for the year . I nearly missed this album altogether, upon my 1st listening I’m was initially disappointed thinking “ what is this garbage “ ? . Then somehow I listened to it again & the seed started to grow & eventually I fell in love with every track. It’s different but in a good way , it’s got great lyrics, it’s fun , it’s serious, it’s not too long. It’s a seriously fantastic album. Please just give it a chance, don’t dismiss after 1 listen, trust me you will be rewarded

I'll be honest, I kind of struggled to get through "...And Star Power" because of the excess of filler tracks it dragged itself on with. It was a shame since I loved the album that came before it so much. Even though "Hang" seems to be following in a similar direction in terms of sound, I feel like it is more realized on here than its predecessor. It definitely benefits from having a shorter run-time too. The influences Foxygen are exploiting on here are as prominent as ever, though in comparison to a record like "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic", Foxygen's individual voice seems a little lost.

I really, really adore their last two albums, but gosh, I could not get into this one. Clearly a labor of love, but somehow, this feels a million times more forced than an 80-minute psychedelic circle jerk. Overly busy and, for all its many layers, pretty hollow.
This album is a breath of fresh air. It is by no means perfect, but the production, performance and songwriting are all quality. A great album for those who appreciate a grand, polished, yet old fashioned kind of sound.
