Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 63.2/100, a mean average of 61.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 61.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.8.

A massive descent from the heights of "Exile In Guyville", yet still a listenable experience, a disappointment to be sure, but not completely objectionable. "H.W.C." is just embarrassing though.

luvulongtim calling out the snobs whilst behaving like a complete snob. Gotta love it. Yeah, this album lacks everything that made Exile In Guyville great, but it's not horrible.

I enjoyed Luvulongtim's comment... but the backlash she got for this album was deserved. Not because it's too mainstream, but because it's crap.

The album that made hipsters cry. Look ma teacher says every time a Liz Phair album goes top 40 a hipster gets so steamed that their Elvis Costello glasses get completely fogged up. Snobs! Go read your Pitchfork media while eating your mango salsa and watching your previous Scott Pilgrim and jacking it to Joanna Newsom. Get over it.
