Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. William Basinski’s albums always offer ambient sanctuary from the real world, and A Shadow In Time is no exception, with the first half of the album a glacial, smoky elegy to the late great David Bowie, and the second half twinkling with the promise of heaven. Special shout-out to the cat who chewed up the tape loops heard throughout, aiding its seductive fogginess.

Renowned for it's inclusion of the 20 minute tribute to David Bowie, featuring an obvious nod to his most treasured album - Low, Basinski's latest avant-classical work has been mooted as his best since Disintegration Loops. Perhaps being not so challenging or repetitive, A Shadow in Time is by no means less rewarding.

I don't know how to fully review ambient music as I feel I do not know much about it. What I got from this album was a mix in between. The first track was not bad as I was not a huge of the trumpets (The repetitive sound in the back has gotten to me, though). The second track though was absolutely gorgeous and I thought it was great. In the end, this review seems to be generous considering I like one out of the two tracks, but that last track is really really good.
