Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.2/100, a mean average of 63.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

Hard to believe this is an album by one of the greatest guitar players of all time. The guitar takes a back seat to synthesizers and background singers here. It's not that the songs themselves (most of them anyway) are all that bad, as I've heard a lot of them live and they sounded good. But the slick production kills all feeling here and reduces it to elevator music.

My father bought this album when it came out and I used to tell him it was boring mainly because at that time I used to listen shameful sh*t like Korn and Limp Bizkit et al. 15 years later I find peaceful listening to it plus Clapton still rocks a good riff every once in a while...
