When I first got a taste of this, I was skeptical of what seemed to be an acoustic songwriter's foray into synths, but after the initial adjustment I was seduced by the beauty of the songs. David Bazan writes some devastating poetry and beautiful melodies and the electronics expand his sound in the right direction. One of my favorite albums of 2016, maybe my favorite.
