Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.5/100, a mean average of 71.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

Great debut album by Michigan's Verve Pipe. Rating (83.46)
This is one of my all time favorites. The Verve Pipe are overlooked repeatedly as people see them as nothing more than a one hit wonder (The Freshmen). I believe those people never listened to the album and never gave it a chance. It's a forgotten gem from the mid 90s.
I've had this album since the '90s but it's only in the last year or so that it's started to become a personal favourite. It's obviously considered a very ordinary / typical post-grunge LP but that description is becoming more and more redundant, as there are influences from a few genres on display here (e.g. prog, psych, country-rock).
The performance of drummer Donny Brown is one of the best things about 'Villains', as he directs the flow of every track with style and is at the centre of all the album's best moments.
Standout tracks : 'Cattle', 'Reverend Girl'.
Widely overlooked and sadly forgotten. This is a much better album than anyone seems to remember.
