Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.3/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.9.

Excellent dream pop, underrated for 2017
One of the best indie releases of 2017. Fantastic voice, fantastic flow to the album, good lyrics and a rather interesting sound. Not just peak girlpower, but a great album through and through.
Getting a lot of "Everything but the girl" vibes here. The slight jazzy touch. A great singer with a small shrill voice

Wow what an album... Not a bad song in here, and it is cohesive as well. Top 10 2017. 8.5/10.
There are some truly great moments, both lyrically and musically, but the record doesn't really come together to form a satisfying whole. Zauner has considerable talent in writing, less so when it comes to her sometimes irritating vocals. The production is overrall quite pleasant and shoegazey but hardly ever makes an attempt to push boundaries (the only exception being the bizarre, underrated lead single "Machinist"). Perhaps there's an atmosphere missing, a certain mood that flows throughout a great album, that should be here based on the themes and the title of the record. However, it's still a worthwhile listen.
Personally it didn't quite hit the highs of Psychopomp but all in all I can definitely say I'm a fan of this album. Machinist and This House are well worth your time and I'm definitely looking forward to the next release by Japanese Breakfast.
