Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 83.3/100, a mean average of 83.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 14.6.

They transformed from a superior new wave group into post-rock pioneers
very nice post-punk/art pop .... mature
Great innovated band and that voice
I find the evolution this band went through pretty amazing. From poppy, although still having a decent single with "It's My Life", to the transcendent and beautiful final three albums.
R.I.P. Mark Hollis! :-((
I love their mid-80s output quite a lot; The Colour of Spring is one of my favorite art-pop/prog-pop albums of that period. Their later stuff practically invented a genre and is worthy of its high praise.
The story of how they started as a Synthpop band to the pioneers of Post-Rock is the stuff of legends these days. This is one of those bands who decided to leave the success they were getting early on and wanted to make music that they wanted regardless of the trends in their time. Major respect to Talk Talk for doing that.
Absolutely outstanding and terribly underrated.
I never thought I'd fall in love with an album from the 80's!
One of the most diverse bands of the 80-90's.
From new wave, synthpop to create post-rock, these guys surprise me
