Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Really great chart. I love Discipline, and agree that the playing is insane on that album. It's like they all play in a million different directions but it's so precise that things line up perfectly. Red Rocks, too. I actually like Starless and Bible Black the best, though.

Really loved your thoughtful review on PF's "Animals" so came to check this out and your list does not disappoint (and also, oh how I love Wish You Were Here).
Love the list, and Talking Heads have been on my "to get into" list literally forever, as is Television. I think it's finally time to pick them up, so thanks for the nudge!
